Meena had to post a letter.
The task was simple enough.
It was big, it was bulky.
It was sealed in a red envelope.

She skipped and she hopped
All the way down the hall.
Out the door,
Down the sidewalk,
To the red letter box.

How close she had been,
She’d later recall,
When she stumbled and fumbled
Over a great waterfall.

And though she kicked and she flapped,
And she screamed and she yelled,
The water kept gushing,
And she went spinning down
What for all was the drain.

She had very nearly drowned,
Good as gone, if you’d asked.
Had it not been for the boat
Stamped on the letter she hadn’t lost.
