A tiding of magpies
Flies past my door.
Swooping, dipping,
Flitting, skitting,
Filling my world
With their melodious song.
But I stand at the threshold,
Pairing them off into twos and fours,
Cleaving joy from sadness,
Moaning at the ones left alone.
Waiting for happy tidings to come.
